Overview
Your account settings let you manage your profile, change your email, set display preferences, and create API keys for programmatic access.
Find these settings under Settings in the main navigation.
Profile
Display name
Your display name appears anywhere your account is shown — in groups, when sharing songs, and in activity feeds. It doesn't have to match your email address.
To change it:
- Go to Settings → Account & Security
- Enter your display name in the field
- Click "Save display name"
Display names are optional. If you don't set one, your email address will be used instead.
Email address
Changing your email
Email changes require verification for security. Here's how it works:
- Go to Settings → Account & Security
- Enter your new email address
- Enter your current password to confirm it's really you
- Click "Send verification email"
You'll receive a verification email at the new address. Click the link in that email to complete the change.
Until you verify:
- Your current email stays active
- The pending change shows in your settings with an expiration date
- You can cancel the request if you change your mind
Canceling a pending change
If you started an email change but changed your mind:
- Go to Settings → Account & Security
- Find the "Verification pending" section
- Click "Cancel request"
The pending change is removed and your current email remains unchanged.
What happens after verification
Once you click the verification link:
- Your email is updated immediately
- You'll need to log in with the new email address
- Any future password resets go to the new email
Password
Password management is handled through the login flow:
- Forgot password: Use the "Forgot password?" link on the login page to reset via email
- Change password: There's no direct password change in settings — use the forgot password flow to set a new one
This approach ensures password changes always go through email verification.
Preferences
Song display defaults
Set your preferred default for how chords are displayed in songs:
- Use letters (default): Chords show as C, D, E, F, G, A, B
- Use numbers: Chords show as 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 relative to the key
This sets your default for new songs you open. You can still toggle between letters and numbers on any individual song.
To change your default:
- Go to Settings → Preferences
- Toggle "Default to numbers for new songs"
- Click "Save preferences"
Number notation is especially useful if you:
- Play in multiple keys and want to think in scale degrees
- Transpose frequently
- Use the Nashville Number System
API Keys
API keys let other applications connect to your Akordo account programmatically. This is useful for:
- Connecting AI assistants like Claude or ChatGPT
- Building custom integrations
- Automating tasks with scripts
Availability
API key access depends on your license. Check the "API Keys" section in Settings to see if it's enabled for your account.
Creating an API key
- Go to Settings → API Keys
- Enter a name for the key (e.g., "Claude Code", "My script")
- Click "Create key"
Important: The key is shown once when created. Copy it immediately — you won't be able to see it again.
Managing existing keys
Your API keys list shows:
- Name: What you called the key
- Prefix: The first few characters (to identify it)
- Created: When you made it
- Last used: When it was last used
Deleting a key
If a key is compromised or no longer needed:
- Find the key in your list
- Click "Delete"
- Confirm the deletion
Any applications using that key will lose access immediately.
Security tips
- Name keys by purpose: "Home laptop" is more useful than "Key 1"
- Delete unused keys: Reduce your attack surface
- Rotate periodically: Create a new key, update your apps, delete the old one
- Never share keys: Keys are like passwords — treat them that way
Usage and limits
The Settings page shows your current usage:
- Songs: How many songs you have vs. your limit
- Setlists: How many setlists vs. your limit
- Groups: How many groups you're in vs. your limit
- Arrangements per song: Maximum arrangements per song
- Tunings per arrangement: Maximum tunings per arrangement
Limits depend on your license. If you're hitting limits, check if an upgrade is available.
